Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana: Empowering Rural India with Decent Work Opportunities The Indian government has launched the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana (GKRY) with the aim of empowering rural India and addressing the pressing issues of poverty alleviation, migration reversal, and unemployment. The scheme focuses on providing employment generation, skill development, and livelihood enhancement opportunities to rural citizens, particularly the agricultural workers and rural labor force. The GKRY is an extension of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and aims to provide decent work opportunities to the rural population, particularly those who were hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. The scheme is expected to benefit around 116 districts in 6 states and will provide employment opportunities to around 250 million people.
